Historical Thinking Skills
HTS 1 : Crafting Historical Arguments from Historical Evidence
Reflection
One example of showing this skill was during the March madness debates. Each student was given a historical leader and the point was to be able to prove why your character was the greater leader. In order to win we had to research into detail for the leader we were given and the opponents we went against. Some students were not as prepared with solid arguments but attempted to continue debating with what they knew already.
Evidence
For evidence I will be using my debate notes. To decide who was a better leader we had to listen to there argument and know what was there accomplishment. Also why they were a better leader. They only had 10 minutes to debate. At the end we had to analyze which one was the better leader. After choosing the leader all the class had to vote.
HTS 2 : Chronological Reasoning
Reflection
In AP World History another key factor to be successful in this class is to be able to stay within the time period. Once mixing the time periods an essay can go terribly wrong. China is one example that had several dynasties and effects on society that it may seem difficult to keep track of. At first it's challenging, but once you memorize the dynasty song it will assist you on multiple choice questions or essays such as DBQs and change over time.
Evidence
For evidence I will use a change over time essay.
HTS 3 : Comparison and Contextualization
Reflection
No society in history has ever had identical beliefs in economics, social, and political ideas. Knowing the difference for each empire is very important in order to be logical. Doing comparison essays strengthen the skills to be able to start an argument on how an empire can either be similar or different.
Evidence
As evidence I will show a picture of a comparison essay.
